In May of 2006, an advisory committee was created for the purpose of uniting community efforts and ideas and to execute a blueprint for the realization of those efforts and ideas.

From that committee, a Board of Directors emerged, charged with the establishment of an institute to effectively carryout the goals enumerated by the advisory committee.

On September 8, 2006, the World Studies Institute of Louisiana (WSIL), a 501(c)3 not for profit organization, was created.

WSIL is an institution offering cutting-edge technology and future-forward programs and programs facilitating the infusion of global perspectives into local communities through language.
